Keep garlic away from sage, beans, peas and parsley, otherwise grows well with all other plants.
Hardneck Lautrec and Carcassonne garlic varieties are hardier, develop and edible stem and stronger flavour. Softneck purple and germidour garlic varieties mature faster and store better.
Planted beginning of October in squares bordered with wood and a lot of organic matter added to the soil; away from sage, parsley, beans and peas. Cloves were left to soak in water with seaweed fertiliser overnight and the plants have developed leaves about 10cm long by end of February.
Harvest for the early purple is end of May, the other varieties in mid summer when leaves start to lie down.
